President Mashat: Collapse of Yemeni Currency in Aden Result of US-Saudi Aggression

News - Yemen: President Mahdi Al-Mashat confirmed that the collapse of the local currency in the occupied governorates, the lack of electricity and water services, and the security chaos are the result of the policies of impoverishment and starvation practiced by the US-Saudi aggression in the occupied governorates.

Mashat’s remarks came during his meeting on Tuesday with the Speaker of the Shura Council, Mohammed Hussein Al-Aidarous.

Mashat pointed out that the economic war on the Yemeni People, besieging them, transferring the operations of the Central Bank, and cutting the salaries of all state employees, indicates that the US-Saudi aggression has been pursuing starvation policies for Yemenis since the beginning of the aggression.

During the meeting, Al-Aidarous briefed President Mashat on the work of the Shura Council during the past year, and also presented a report on the situation in the occupied governorates.

President Mashat praised the societal activity of the members of the Shura Council through visits to the fronts and the community and the mobilization of energies in the face of the US-Saudi aggression.

The Yemeni riyal continued its collapse against foreign currencies in the governorates under the control of the US-Saudi aggression and occupation, reaching over 1400 riyals per dollar.

Banking sources in Aden indicated that foreign exchange rates witnessed an increase for the fifth day in a row, as the exchange rate of the US dollar rose to 1414 Yemeni riyals, and the Saudi riyal to 373 Yemeni riyals.

Economists attributed the continued collapse of the local currency to several factors, including the deepening of corruption in the pro-aggression government, in addition to the impact of the news circulating about the near depletion of foreign exchange reserves at the Central Bank in Aden.

This comes at a time when observers are increasingly warning of the repercussions of this collapse, which has already been reflected in the prices of various commodities, foremost of which are the prices of foodstuffs and medicines, whose prices have increased during the past two days by nearly 10%.

The Saudi-backed government continues to take economic measures that directly affect the service and living conditions of the Yemeni People, especially in the southern regions, and exacerbate their disastrous suffering as a result of the US-Saudi siege and aggression.

Aden and southern governorates are witnessing security chaos, and almost daily crimes, under the control of the forces of US-Saudi aggression and Saudi-Emirati occupation. In addition to kidnapping, bombings and clashes between militants fighting for influence, people in southern Yemen witness an increase in the number of assassinations involving military personnel, security leaders, religious and social figures.
