Sana’a Renews Condemnation of Quran Desecration in Sweden, Denmark

News - Yemen: The Council of Ministers renewed its strong condemnation of the repeated desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden, which is considered a blatant disregard for the feelings of the entire Islamic Nation.

In its periodic meeting on Monday, the Council of Ministers discussed the topics on its agenda, foremost of which are those related to repeated insults to the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark.

It stressed that Islamic countries are required to take practical stances and measures in the face of these disgraceful acts. Foremost is the severing of diplomatic relations with Sweden and other European countries that in any way offend the Islamic religion, its symbols and sanctities.

The Council confirmed that the official statement, whether by Sweden or other countries, to burn copies of the Holy Quran has nothing to do with freedom of expression. It clearly indicates the control of the Zionists over the European governments that harbor all hostility and hatred for Islam.

It also stressed the strict implementation of the decision to boycott Swedish products, and taking into account the steps related to the boycott process, which were stipulated in the previous decision of the Council regarding boycotting countries that deliberately offend Islamic symbols and sanctities.

The Council praised the step taken by the Iraqi government to sever diplomatic relations with Sweden and expel its ambassador in Baghdad. It considered the Iraqi move as an honorable act that should be followed by all Arab and Islamic countries as the least that can be done to support the Islamic religion, its symbols and sanctities.

A Sweden-based Iraqi refugee, identified as Salwan Momika, desecrated Muslims' holy book. He committed the sacrilegious act first in front of Stockholm's biggest mosque in late June, and for the second time outside the Iraqi embassy in the same city on Thursday, amid strict protection provided by the Swedish police.

On Friday, members of an Islamophobic Danish group, called Danske Patrioter, desecrated the Qur'an in front of Iraq’s embassy in Denmark's capital city of Copenhagen.

The acts of sacrilege have opened the floodgates of protests across the Muslim world, including in Yemen, with all Muslim countries issuing vehement condemnations of the heinous acts.
