The sources said that one of Tariq Saleh's sons is concerned with the task of reproducing the al-Qaeda organization and including the organization's fighters in the ranks of the Guardians of the Republic, which is led by his father with funding from the UAE. It is likely that these arrangements aim to carry out assassinations in Taiz, and other tasks in both Aden and Hadramout.
In November 2022, a number of activists on social media circulated pictures of military recruitment of al-Qaeda members to fight in the ranks of the coalition forces within the factions led by Tariq Saleh on the West Coast.
Before that, activists circulated a video clip of al-Qaeda training operations inside the port of Mocha, while they were raising the flags of al-Qaeda. They vow to reveal the terrorist slaughter operations that were carried out against civilians in the city of Mocha.
In September 2021, the Chief of Staff of the Sana’a forces, Ali Hammoud Al-Mushki, had warned, during one of his meetings with the United Nations Mission in Support of the Hodeidah Agreement, of the danger of booby-trapping the coasts of Yemen with terrorist members. He stressed that Sana'a monitored the coalition bringing in takfiris belonging to Daesh through the port of Mocha, and using it as a destination for various types of explosive weapons and mines. Al-Mushki has repeated these warnings on several occasions, without the situation being addressed by the international community.
The recent prisoner deal also revealed a great relationship between Tariq Saleh and Al-Qaeda, through the presence of a prisoner from the Sana’a forces who was captured from Al-Qaeda in Al-Baidha, and who was exchanged as part of the deal that Tariq Saleh concluded with the Sana’a forces last April. Accordingly, Tariq's son and brother were released in exchange for a number of prisoners of the Sana'a forces on the West Coast. This confirms that the organization's members who fled from Al-Baidha joined Saleh's forces on the West Coast.
Meanwhile, many media outlets confirm that Tariq Saleh is still using al-Qaeda members as fighters within his UAE-funded forces on the West Coast.
