Media Losses in Yemen as Result of US-Saudi Aggression

News - Yemen: Al-Thawra newspaper published statistics showing the losses suffered by the Yemeni media, during the past eight years, as a result of the US-Saudi aggression.

According to the newspaper, 290 martyrs from the Military Media were killed during that period, while 46 media professionals were killed and 25 others were wounded from the national media.

According to figures published by the newspaper, international journalists have been denied entry to Yemen 143 times.

Likewise, the aggression destroyed 23 media facilities, and targeted 30 broadcasting and transmission towers. According to the newspaper, it was recorded that the channels were being stopped broadcasting eight times, and were blocked and jammed seven times.

On March 26, 2015, the official Yemeni channels, Al-Yemen, Saba and Al-Iman, were suspended from broadcasting on the Nilesat satellite. About two months later, on May 15, Yemen Al Youm channel was stopped broadcasting on the same satellite.

On November 8, 2018, the Al-Masirah satellite channel was also blocked on the Nilesat satellite, for the third time in one month.

As for social media, the Al-Masirah's Twitter accounts were suspended on October 8, 2020, in addition to the accounts of a number of its employees.

These violations come amid an 8-year Saudi-led war and economic blockade against Yemen, which has turned the country into what the UN calls the "worst humanitarian crisis" on earth.
