Abdulsalam: Naval Engineers Prove Sana'a Keenness of Marine Environment

News - Yemen: The head of the National Delegation, Mohammad Abdulsalam, confirmed Tuesday that the maintenance work carried out by the engineers in the naval forces for the Safer ship in 2020 is a proof of Sana'a keenness of protecting the marine environment.

On his Twitter page, Abdul Salam said: “What the naval forces did in terms of maintenance work for the Safer ship to avoid its sinking or oil leakage from it, is an example of shouldering responsibility by Sana’a towards the local, regional and international marine environment.”

The Navy presented, during a press conference, a video presentation of the rescue operation of the Safer ship from sinking in May 2020 by Yemeni teams and experts.

The head of the supervisory committee for the implementation of the Safer Agreement, Zaid Al-Washli, explained that in 2020, water leaked into the Safer tanker, which would have led to its sinking, however the Yemeni naval forces took over the rescue operation.

In turn, Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces, Brigadier General Mansour Al-Saadi, stated that the US-Saudi aggression, by stopping maintenance expenses, caused the deterioration of the ship's condition, while the US-imposed blockade made saving the ship from sinking a difficult and heroic task.

At the press conference, Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein Al-Ezzi said, "At a time when our men were saving the world from an imminent maritime disaster, the UN Security Council was condemning the rescuers (Sana'a)," stressing that Yemeni Naval Forces are the safety valve for navigation and the marine environment in the Red Sea.
