He explained that the so-called lifting of the siege on the port of Hodeidah is only formal, as the cranes, which are the basis of work in any port, are still destroyed until now.
Qahim pointed out that some ships are still subject to inspection for long days in Djibouti, and these complications are considered war measures.
Qahim called on the United Nations to implement its pledges to repair the cranes in the port of Hodeidah, and to lift the siege on the port completely, so that it can perform its duties in serving the citizens.
It is noteworthy that the port of Hodeidah is the largest port in Yemen, and is the main lifeline for Yemenis, as more than 80% of food and medical goods enter through it.
Saudi Arabia, backed by the United States and regional allies, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, claiming the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power.
In December 2018, an agreement was reached committed the parties to an immediate ceasefire in the city of Hodeidah and the ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa, redeployment of forces, securing the ports, the establishment of the joint Redeployment Coordination Committee chaired by the United Nations, and the use of the revenues of the ports to support civil service salary payments.
However on a daily basis, the Saudi-led aggression violates the UN-backed agreement, reached between the warring sides during a round of UN-sponsored peace negotiations in Sweden.
