News - Yemen: Ministry of Transport submitted on Wednesday a letter of objection to the United Nations signing a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi-backed government regarding marine insurance on ships.

The Minister of Transport, Major General Abdel Wahhab Al-Durra, met with the regional director of the United Nations Development Program to discuss the humanitarian aspects resulting from the continuation of the blockade.

Al-Durra stressed that what is required is to reduce the cost of marine insurance in all Yemeni ports.

He called on the UN to exert efforts in the matter of repairing the cranes of the port of Hodeidah, which were destroyed by the aggression.

The Minister of Transport stated that Yemen is still suffering because of the ships heading to Djibouti and being 20 days late, and the fines that this entails before they reach the port of Hodeidah.

He stressed that the UN should deal with Yemeni ports with one eye without discrimination, stressing the need to separate the humanitarian and political aspects.

The Regional Director of the United Nations Development Program, Abdullah Al-Dardari, signed with the Saudi-backed government a preliminary memorandum of understanding to reduce the cost of marine insurance on ships coming to the occupied ports.

The initial memorandum of understanding provides for the establishment of an insurance deposit in the Insurance Protection Club in London with the aim of reducing insurance fees on ships, which have doubled to 16 times the normal situation, due to the arbitrary measures taken by the Saudi-backed government.
