Iran Foils Major Bombing Plot in Tehran, Arrests 28 Daesh-linked Terrorists

News - Middle East: Iran has nipped in the bud a major plot to carry out 30 simultaneous bomb attacks at populous areas of the capital Tehran, arresting 28 operatives affiliated with the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.

In a statement on Sunday, the Intelligence Ministry said its forces conducted operations in a time span of several days in the provinces of Tehran, Alborz and West Azarbaijan.

Bases used by the terrorists were detected and all the Daesh-linked agents involved in the plot were arrested.

“These elements are affiliated with Daesh and a number of them have a history of cooperating with Takfiri groups in Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Kurdistan region of Iraq,” the ministry said.

The modus operandi employed by the terror teams, the ministry said, was by far more complex than that used by ordinary Takfiri groups and it remarkably conforms to the patterns practiced by the Israeli regime.

The ministry said the seized equipment includes a considerable amount of explosives and ready bombs, a package of 100 explosive primers and electronic devices used in time bombs, 17 US-made handguns and bullets, as well as diverse smart and satellite telecommunication devices, military outfits, and suicide vests.

The ministry affirmed that the plot of terror had been designed to coincide with the anniversary of last year’s riots in Iran.

Daesh has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in Iran, including one targeting the Parliament and another the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini in 2017.

The terrorist group also claimed two terrorist attacks on the Shah Cheragh shrine in the southern city of Shiraz in August 2023 and October 2022.

The riots in Iran erupted after the death of 22-year-old Iranian woman Mahsa Amini.

In mid-September 2022, Amini fainted at a police station in Tehran and was later died at the hospital. An official report by Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization concluded that Amini’s death was caused by illness rather than alleged blows to the head or other vital body organs.

Iran’s intelligence community said several countries, including the United States and Britain, used their spy and propaganda apparatuses to provoke the violent riots.
