WFP Apologizes for Redirecting Polish Wheat Grant Due to Corruption in Pro-Aggression Government

Yemen News: Talaat Al-Sharjabi, spokesman for the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs, has confirmed that the World Food Program (WFP) issued an apology for diverting the Polish wheat grant due to its awareness of corruption within the Pro-aggression government.

Al-Sharjabi explained that this incident concerning the Polish wheat grant sheds light on the corrupt influence within humanitarian aid channels.

He highlighted that the primary issue with grant and aid distribution stems from American pressure on nations and organizations not to engage with the government in Sana'a while the Pro-aggression government exploits these aid resources.

The Pro-aggression government relinquished half of the aid provided by Poland for the Yemeni people, approximately 40,000 tons of wheat, to a merchant in exchange for transporting the wheat to Yemen, as they were unable to cover transportation costs.

In September, various officials criticized WFP's decision to reduce aid to Yemen, claiming it had political motives in support of the US-Saudi aggression.

Ahmed Abu Hamra, head of the Human Rights Eye Center, affirmed that WFP's decision aligns with American policies aimed at imposing a blockade on the home front.

Economic expert Rashid Al-Haddad pointed out that there is no objective justification for reducing WFP's aid. He suggested that if the UN's priorities in Yemen were to improve living conditions and alleviate the suffering of Yemenis, it should pressure the aggressors to pay state employee salaries and increase food aid.

Nasr Al-Din Amer, editor-in-chief of the Saba news agency, reiterated that Sana'a officials do not reject humanitarian aid but welcome it. He also mentioned that the US has taken several steps, including WFP's decision, as part of a broader strategy regarding the salary issue and other complexities.

Sources informed Al-Masirah that WFP had recently requested official approval from Sana'a authorities for its aid reduction decision. However, this request was rejected due to perceived suspicious agendas, including misrepresenting the reasons behind the aid reduction.

Additionally, the Supreme Council for the Administration and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation cautioned against the catastrophic consequences of continued reductions in humanitarian aid for millions of Yemeni people. It emphasized that this exacerbates the severe humanitarian crisis caused by a nine-year blockade and aggression by foreign nations.

The Council asserted that the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen is primarily the result of the countries involved in aggression using humanitarian aid as a pressure tactic against the Yemeni population.
