Politicians Call for a New Revolution against Contemporary Occupiers in Southern Yemen

Yemen: On the 60th anniversary of the October 14 Revolution, several politicians have emphasized that there is no difference between the  former British occupation and the present occupation of Southern Yemen. They are urging for immediate action to initiate a new revolution against the current occupation.

In exclusive statements to Al-Masirah, Governor of Hadramout, Brigadier Luqman Baras, noted that “while we take pride in the achievements of the October 14 Revolution, which led to the expulsion of the British occupiers, we are pained by what the southern provinces are experiencing under the same old British occupation, as well as American influence and their tools.”

Yahya Mansour Abu Asba, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Yemeni Socialist Party, emphasized that the situation in the southern provinces is dire, pointing to the recent tragic incidents that have occurred in Hadramout and other regions.

“The war waged by the previous regime on the South in 1994 and the subsequent alliance of the regime with the Islah Party destroyed the South and its revolution,” Abu Asba added.

For his part, Hussein Wasel, Deputy Governor of Al-Dhale, recalled the internal bloodshed conflicts among the leaders of the October 14 Revolution, which led to the loss of the revolution's goals and achievements.

Wasel stressed that it is impossible to talk about freedom and independence while a large part of Yemen is occupied. He relies on the Yemeni youth's ability to expel the occupiers and colonizers once again and liberate all Yemeni territories.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Al-Alai, the coordinator of the Southern Front to confront invasion and occupation, called upon the people of the South to take up arms against the American and British occupation and their tools. He considered it a sacred and legitimate project for all Yemeni people, especially the sons of the occupied southern provinces.

The October 14 Revolution is a revolution launched in 1963 in South Yemen against British colonialism, which ruled the region for more than a century.

The beginnings of Emirati and Saudi intervention in the South in 2015, started with the establishment of military formations and the creation of political and tribal faces loyal to these two countries to achieve their goals, are similar to what the British did when they occupied the city of Aden in 1839.

The presence of the UAE and Saudi Arabia today also appears similar to the recent period of British presence in the South, which began to end with protests and strikes, before the factions of the national movement took up arms and forcibly expelled the British occupiers in 1967.

Since Saudi Arabia and the UAE entered the war in Yemen under the leadership of "the coalition" more than nine years ago, they have consistently emulated the British role and sought to replicate the British experience in the South.

In 2015, Saudi and Emirati forces entered the city of Aden from Bir Ali, citing the need to repel the "Houthi-Iranian" intervention and secure international navigation. It didn't take long after the arrival of these forces for the new British-style experiment to take shape.

The Saudi-Emirati ambition in Yemen faced a southern awakening, which began on the island of Socotra when thousands protested against turning the island into a dependency of Abu Dhabi. Then came the uprising of the people of Al-Mahra in July, demanding sovereignty over the province and rejecting foreign control over the city. The protests expanded to reach the city of Aden, where the UAE has deployed over thirty thousand local military personnel loyal to them.

Hundreds took to the streets demanding the departure of the "coalition" forces from the south, a situation that analysts have compared to the protests in the 1960s against British presence, which laid the foundation for armed struggle in the south.
