Human Rights Ministry Condemns US-Backed Suspension of Food Aid Program in Yemen

News - Yemen Yemen's Ministry of Human Rights has condemned the suspension of the General Food Assistance Program in areas under the Supreme Political Council's authority, orchestrated by the World Food Program (WFP).

In its statement, the ministry expressed profound disappointment, highlighting that this decision is indicative of the dominance of American decision-making within the World Food Program. It underscored how this reflects America's approach to humanitarian concerns, accusing Washington of consistently leveraging starvation as a weapon of war and a means of political subjugation or coercion, irrespective of the suffering inflicted on civilians.

The ministry pointed out that major impediments to international aid mechanisms include American hegemony over UN decisions, donor-imposed conditions, and political manipulation at the expense of urgent humanitarian needs.

"The WFP has repeatedly pursued an obstinate and escalating course in line with the American threats to our country during the previous phase," it added. "It has repeatedly reduced its assistance until it reached complete suspension, coinciding with our people's principled positions regarding the plight of the Palestinian people. This represents an additional evidence of its lack of neutrality."

It emphasized that the suspension, selectively targeting regions under the Supreme Political Council's jurisdiction, isn't due to resource scarcity but aligns with a malicious political agenda by the US to undermine Yemen's unity and independence.

Stressing adherence to the Geneva Conventions for civilian protection during wartime, the ministry demanded an international mechanism founded on neutrality, impartiality, and non-discrimination in aid provision. They urged major powers to honor humanitarian commitments devoid of pressure, restrictions, or political conditions.

The statement cautioned about the dangerous repercussions of politicizing humanitarian aid, directly attributing responsibility to the USA for the serious humanitarian fallout resulting from this decision.

Earlier, the WFP said it had paused general food distribution in north Yemen due to "limited funding and disagreement with local authorities over how to focus on the poorest there."

During a speech commemorating Martyr's Day in mid-November, the Leader of the Revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik, disclosed that the United States has employed pressure tactics on Yemen due to its support for the Palestinian resistance. These tactics include direct threats and revival of war threats within the US-Saudi coalition, hindering agreements and impeding humanitarian aid efforts.
