US Navy Doesn't Have Enough Air Defense Missiles: National Interest

News - World: The newspaper "National Interest" mentioned that the US missile and ammunition stockpile "remains vulnerable to repeated attacks from enemies using much cheaper weapons."

It argued that Washington needs to be reminded that the increasingly unstable world in three regions has exposed the "absurdity of the Pentagon's plans to prepare for only a short war."

Furthermore, it added that the Pentagon's inability to swiftly replenish depleted stocks of bombs, missiles, and ammunition is what "forces enemies to continue their attacks until we simply run out of ammunition," noting that Beijing and Moscow are well aware of this fact.

The article also stated that Beijing is monitoring and taking note of Washington's diminishing ammunition, while it continues to build its arsenal of advanced ballistic missiles. At the same time, estimates indicate Iran possesses over 3,000 ballistic missiles for its own use or to provide to its growing list of allies.

Amid Washington's current operations, what they consider as "protecting commercial shipping from ongoing Yemeni attacks," the financial and military strains resulting from these operations also cast shadows on the Navy's preparedness to face future challenges, according to the newspaper.

It further reported that "the high cost of precision air defense ammunition highlights the dilemma facing the Navy in taking action against threats when stocks are extremely limited." The challenge is exacerbated by recent analysis revealing inadequacies in the depth of the Navy's weapon stockpiles, which could impact its readiness for intense conflict.

The newspaper also emphasized that "a weak defense industrial base and scarce inventory could prevent our military leaders from acting to protect national interests."

In conclusion, it stated that "Washington must awaken from its slumber, move faster, and urgently work to restore traditional and credible deterrence worldwide," emphasizing that "the costs of combat will be much higher if policymakers fail to exert sufficient efforts now."
