'No Thanks' App Empowers Users to Boycott Israeli Goods with Barcode Scanning

News - Middle East: Activists have launched a new application on smartphones designed to facilitate the boycott of Israeli goods by simply scanning the product's barcode. This initiative coincides with a widespread campaign to show support for Palestinians amid the Israeli war on Gaza.

According to the developers, the application currently focuses on grocery store brands and some other categories, but they are actively working on a new release that will include additional product categories beyond groceries. The app's standout feature is its ability to indicate whether a specific product supports or has connections with Israel.

By enabling users to scan products, the app helps identify the origin of the products, particularly daily consumer goods for ordinary citizens. The application provides users with information about the origins and affiliations of various products by scanning the serial number on the product's packaging and processing it through the application's algorithms, resulting in information about the product's connections to Israel.

The "No Thanks" application is considered a revolutionary tool in the digital world, especially given its direct impact on the overall economy supporting Israel.

Many in the Arab and Islamic world expressed outrage at the US and Europe for not exerting pressure on Israel and stopping the war on Gaza. Consequently, they have stopped purchasing foreign products, leading to a significant decline in the sales of some of these products.

While several companies have issued statements affirming their political neutrality, the boycott movement has intensified since the outbreak of the war, with signs of its widespread prevalence.

A report by Bloomberg highlighted that the boycott campaign against American brands, such as Starbucks and Coca-Cola, has strengthened local competitors in the Middle East.

In recent weeks, McDonald's CEO, Chris Kempczinski, warned that his company has observed a "real trade response" in the Middle East due to what he described as media misinformation campaigns circulating about it.

Meanwhile, the market share of Americana International, the company responsible for KFC, Pizza Hut, Krispy Kreme, and Hardee's in the Middle East, has declined by 27% in the Saudi Arabian stock market.

On November 4, Yemen's Industry and Trade Minister issued a set of decisions to ban commercial advertisements for products from American companies that provide support to the Zionist entity.

These decisions include the prohibition of billboards on streets, roads, public places, shopping centers, and other means of promoting products from American companies. This move is part of a broader effort to boycott products from such companies that endorse the Zionist entity.
