What Are Implications of Washington's Designating Ansarullah as "Terrorist" Group?

Yemen: Many political analysts agree that the United States' decision to classify Ansarullah in Yemen is one of the dumbest decisions Washington has made in its fervent defense of Israeli occupation.

Political analysts assert that the US administration suffers from a complete detachment from reality in the Middle East, as the decision to classify Ansarullah is not based on any practical data that could lead to any results in favor of imposing US hegemony on Yemen.

From the perspective of some political analysts, the US administration failed to consider that Ansarullah does not have any financial assets or foreign transactions that could be affected by the American classification.

Washington remains unable to understand that Ansarullah is an integral part of the Yemeni people and that the group enjoys widespread support among the people, especially after the bold operations carried out against Israeli occupation in support of the Palestinian people facing genocidal attacks by the Zionist killing machine.

Observers believe that Washington's resort to classification methods does not represent more than new attempts to exhaust American cards to subdue Yemen, especially after US leaders and officials admitted that military strikes on Yemen are futile to protect Israeli ships.

Some point out that the American classification will not in any way push Ansarullah to back down from their supportive stance towards the Palestinian people, especially since Washington offered Ansarullah many incentives to abandon the Palestinian people during the battle for Al-Aqsa.

The issue of American motives for classifying Ansarullah takes an important place in the ongoing discussions about Washington's positions towards Sana'a, as many observers inside and outside Yemen believe that America's motives for classifying Ansarullah as a "terrorist" group lack ethical foundations, given that the decision came in the context of the US administration's support for Israeli occupation in the genocidal massacres against the Palestinian people.

According to observers, the American classification is unlikely to receive much regional reaction to Yemen, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia may be the biggest loser from this classification, amid the ongoing dialogue between Riyadh and Sana'a to end the war.

Overall, it seems that the American classification will reflect more disappointments in the American administration, whose main characteristic has become confusion in dealing with international affairs.

In mid-January, Washington re-designated Ansarullah as a “terrorist” group amid frustration with anti-Israel naval operations by the Yemeni Armed Forces in the Red Sea.

The designation, which took effect in 30 days, requires American financial institutions to freeze Ansarullah funds and bars members of the resistance group from traveling to the US.

It followed several rounds of illegal strikes by the United States and its allies on Yemen in violation of the country’s sovereignty and international law.

Israel waged a bloody war on the besieged Gaza Strip on October 7 following a historic operation by the Palestinian Hamas resistance group against the occupying entity.

The US has offered untrammeled support for Israel during the onslaught that has so far killed over 29,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

In solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, the Yemeni Armed Forces have targeted ships in the Red Sea with owners linked to Israel or those going to and from ports in the occupied territories.

In response, the US has formed a military coalition against Yemeni forces in the Red Sea and endangered maritime navigation in the strategic waterway.
