Yemen Refutes Claims on Submarine Cable Damage, Affirms Commitment to Network Protection

News - Yemen:  Yemen's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology refutes the validity of claims circulated by media outlets affiliated with the Zionist enemy and other social media platforms regarding the alleged reasons behind the damage to several international submarine cables in the Red Sea last Saturday.

The ministry, along with the Salvation government, reiterates their dedication to Yemen's general stance concerning the submarine cables, as outlined in the recent address by Leader of the Revolution Sayyed Abdulmalik Al-Houthi, along with previous statements. They emphasize their commitment to safeguarding all communication cables and their services from any risks, underscoring their determination to provide necessary facilitations for repair and maintenance, pending required permits from the Maritime Affairs Authority in Sana'a.

In its statement, the ministry clarifies that Yemen's decision to prohibit the passage of Israeli vessels does not extend to ships owned by international companies licensed to conduct maritime cable operations in Yemeni waters.

Yemen's Ministry of Communications underscores its crucial role in ensuring the continuity, construction, and development of the international and regional communication and internet network facilitated by submarine cables within Yemen's territorial waters. It continues its efforts to facilitate the passage and implementation of submarine cable projects through Yemeni territorial waters, including those supported by Yemen through the Yemen International Telecommunications Company (TeleYemen).

The Israeli newspaper Globes has claimed that at least four underwater communication cables were damaged in the sea between Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Djibouti, East Africa, allegedly due to operations led by the Yemeni Armed Forces.

The report stated, "Four submarine communications cables have been damaged in the Red Sea between Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Djibouti, East Africa."

The Leader of the Revolution Sayyed Abdulmalik Al-Houthi has previously addressed rumors regarding Yemen's alleged involvement in damaging international submarine cables in the Red Sea.

During a speech commemorating the martyrdom of President Saleh Ali Al-Sammad, on February 13, Sayyed Abdulmalik stated, "The rumors circulating in some media about our intention to target submarine cables and internet cables aim to distort and misrepresent Yemen's position. We have no intention of targeting submarine cables connecting to countries in the region."

Sana'a remains committed to ensuring unrestricted navigation in the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait for all ships, except Israeli vessels and those bound for Israeli ports until the aggression on Gaza ceases. Recent incidents have witnessed an expansion of targeting to include ships from the US and UK due to the aggression by these countries against Yemen.
