News - Yemen: Abdulqader Al-Murtadha, the head of the National Committee for Prisoners' Affairs, met with the newly appointed Director of the Office of the United Nations Representative, Mohamed Elghannam, on Tuesday to discuss prisoners' issues and the challenges faced in implementing previous agreements.

During the meeting, Al-Murtadha reaffirmed full readiness to implement the latest agreement signed by all parties under the UN's sponsorship last year.

He stressed the United Nations' need to exert all available pressure on any party obstructing the implementation of this binding agreement.

In May, planned prison visits arranged by the UN in Marib were disrupted by US-Saudi mercenaries. The National Committee for Prisoners' Affairs had intended to conduct a new round of negotiations after completing the visits as a step towards implementing the March 2022 agreement. However, the mercenaries' refusal to permit visits impeded progress on the prisoner issue.

Despite the obstacles, the committee remains committed to completing the visits and facilitating the prisoner exchange process. Sana'a has expressed readiness to engage in a comprehensive deal for the release of all prisoners, but obstruction from US-Saudi mercenaries persists.
