In a joint statement, the Ministry and the Authority emphasized Yemen's dedication to protecting submarine cables and the interests of associated countries while upholding international laws, conventions, and treaties. They also stressed Yemen's desire to foster mutually beneficial relationships with other nations.
Expressing concern over reported disruptions to submarine cables in the Red Sea, caused by hostile and unlawful actions by the US and Britain, the statement highlighted the potential impact on global communications and the flow of information. Such disruptions were described as a significant challenge to global telecommunications infrastructure.
The statement firmly rejected any accusations implicating Yemen in the cutting of submarine cables, attributing the disruptions instead to provocations by the Israeli, US, and UK forces. It cited a statement from an international telecommunications company denying Yemen's involvement in the damage to submarine Internet cables in the Red Sea.
Recognizing the critical role of submarine cables in global communications, the Ministry and Authority underscored the importance of maintaining information security and stability in economic and social domains worldwide. They affirmed their readiness to facilitate repairs and maintenance of submarine cables in the Red Sea by issuing necessary permits to Internet service companies.
The Leader of the Revolution Sayyed Abdulmalik Al-Houthi has previously addressed rumors regarding Yemen's alleged involvement in damaging international submarine cables in the Red Sea.
During a speech commemorating the martyrdom of President Saleh Ali Al-Sammad, on February 13, Sayyed Abdulmalik stated, "The rumors circulating in some media about our intention to target submarine cables and internet cables aim to distort and misrepresent Yemen's position. We have no intention of targeting submarine cables connecting to countries in the region."
Sana'a remains committed to ensuring unrestricted navigation in the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait for all ships, except Israeli vessels and those bound for Israeli ports until the aggression on Gaza ceases. Recent incidents have witnessed an expansion of targeting to include ships from the US and UK due to the aggression by these countries against Yemen.
