Euro-Med: Israeli Army Uses Intimidation Tactics in Nuseirat Camp

News - Middle East: As part of its ongoing military operations that commenced on October 7, 2023, the Israeli army has adopted new and disturbing methods to intimidate and target Palestinian civilians in the central Gaza Strip’s Nuseirat refugee camp, reports the Geneva-based Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.

The organization gathered testimonies from camp residents who reported hearing recordings of women screaming and babies crying late at night. When residents went outside to investigate the sounds, believing someone needed help, they were targeted by Israeli quadcopter drones. This tactic, which involved broadcasting various distressing sounds including gunshots, explosions, and military vehicle movements, was designed to lure residents into the open where they could be easily targeted by snipers and drones.

A 20-year-old camp resident, who remained anonymous for safety reasons, described the situation to the Euro-Med Monitor team: “We were alerted by the sound of girls and women screaming for help, claiming they were injured. When we went to check, there were no women, but we were immediately targeted by quadcopter drones.”

He continued, "I managed to escape back inside while two people in front of me were seriously injured. Due to the ongoing gunfire, we couldn’t treat them ourselves and had to call an ambulance."

A 60-year-old woman also testified, stating she heard gunfire followed by women’s cries claiming their children were hurt and needed help. She added, "The sounds lasted about 10 to 15 minutes, but we didn’t go outside because it was late and I recognized them as recordings from drones."

These psychological warfare tactics coincided with intense military assaults involving machine gunfire from helicopters, tanks, and quadcopters, as well as artillery and airstrikes. The attacks targeted various areas of the camp indiscriminately and continued intensively throughout the night, aiming at densely populated residential zones, including schools and mosques housing displaced people.

The report underscores the systematic targeting by the Israeli army of civilians walking in the streets, looking out of windows, or trying to move between shelters and homes. The increasing intensity of bombings and shootings throughout the night deliberately aims at civilian targets, resulting in numerous casualties among the civilian population, including women and children.

Euro-Med Monitor has expressed grave concerns over these tactics, which it deems immoral and inhumane, warning of the severe psychological and physical harm being inflicted on the civilian population of the Gaza Strip.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that the death toll of Palestinians since the start of the Israeli offensive in Gaza has reached 33,843, with an additional 76,575 reported injuries.

Amid ongoing conflict, Israeli forces continue to conduct airstrikes in the northern region of the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, resulting in injuries among several Palestinians, including children.

It was also reported that Israeli forces demolished an entire residential block near the entrance of the Al-Mughraqa area in the central governorate. Furthermore, Israeli aircraft targeted Al-Mughraqa, north of Nuseirat, with a series of airstrikes.

In the same region, Israeli military vehicles performed dredging operations in the Al-Mughraqa and Al-Zahraa areas north of Nuseirat.

Additionally, the occupying forces deployed sound bombs at the entrance of a school that is currently sheltering displaced individuals in the new camp area of Nuseirat.
