News - Yemen: Nine Yemeni fishermen returned to Al-Salif District in Hodeidah Governorate on Sunday after months of abduction and torture in Saudi prisons.

The fishermen reported that they were abducted by a Saudi patrol while fishing in Yemeni waters off Dhul Harab Island. They were subjected to provocative and humiliating practices, had their catch confiscated, faced financial fines, and endured various forms of torture and mistreatment during their imprisonment.

Saudi Arabia and its allies have waged its war against Yemen since 2015, aiming to reinstate Riyadh-friendly former officials. The war and siege enforced by the US-Saudi-led coalition have resulted in hundreds of thousands of Yemeni deaths and pushed the country to the brink of famine, creating the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

Coastal communities in Yemen have suffered greatly, with fishing boats, ports, and processing sites destroyed or damaged, and many fishermen killed. Airstrikes have hit fishing boats and markets, and mines have made the waters treacherous. Piracy and attacks by Eritrean authorities and aggressive forces have also exacerbated the situation for Yemeni fishermen.
