UN Security Council: A Tool of American Policy and Double Standards

News – Yemen: The Ministry of Human Rights in Sana'a held a press conference on Thursday titled "The Security Council: A Mechanism of American Foreign Policy."

During the conference, Ali al-Dailami, the Minister of Human Rights, emphasized that the Security Council has become an extension of American foreign policies. He criticized the Security Council for issuing resolutions that are unrelated to both the Council itself and the UN General Assembly, which is unable to stop any decision made by the Security Council.

"Regrettably, the Security Council, whose mission is to maintain international peace and security, has become part of the problem rather than the solution, as it fuels conflicts around the world," Al-Dailami stated.

He specifically addressed Security Council Resolution 2739 concerning Yemen, condemning Yemeni strikes in the Red Sea without condemning the crimes of the Zionist entity and its genocidal war against the Palestinian people in Gaza, which is the main reason for Yemeni strikes on ships heading to occupied Palestinian ports in the Red Sea.

Al-Dailami further criticized the Security Council's recent session on Yemen for its bias, stating that this bias is not uncommon in situations where Yemen has suffered from aggression and blockade by the US-Saudi-Emirati coalition.

"The Security Council expresses concerns about ships heading to Israel to ensure their lifeline, but it shows no concern about the Zionist genocide against Palestinians because it does not value their lives. This is the crime committed by the Council against peoples striving for their freedom, dignity, and independence," he added.

Al-Dailami also highlighted the Security Council's resolution urging all member states to impose an arms embargo on Yemen, while weapons that destroy civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, transported via ships to the Zionist entity, must arrive safely without interception by Yemeni Armed Forces. He considered this duplicity unethical and inhumane, practiced by the Security Council and its members who voted for it.

Regarding Russia and China's roles as permanent members of the Security Council, he praised their abstentions from voting on most Security Council resolutions, which often obstruct humanitarian actions. He expressed hope that Russia and China's positions would favor humanity and reflect humanitarian concerns benefiting people worldwide.

In conclusion, Al-Dailami criticized the United Nations, stating that its agencies and international organizations are compromised without taking any action against it, particularly by US embassy personnel freely moving between UN organizations. He emphasized the difficulty of achieving justice and impartiality due to UN complicity in tarnishing human rights organizations and allowing US control, which includes applying pressure against those who support Palestinians and their plight.

After October 2023, Yemen’s Armed Forces carried out operations in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who are enduring a genocidal Israeli war.

They were also meant as a response to the attacks that the US and the UK have been staging against Yemen as means of trying to stop its pro-Palestinian operations.

The Armed Forces have vowed to sustain their operations as long as the Israeli regime keeps up the brutal military onslaught that has so far claimed the lives of nearly 38,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

They have also pledged to continue their strikes so long as the regime retains a 2006-present siege that it has been enforcing against Gaza, and has markedly tightened during the war.
