Despite prior approval from 40 hospitals and medical centers in Germany to cover the costs of treatment and provide prosthetics, German authorities have refused entry visas for the children's guardians. The children suffer from severe injuries, including amputations, burns, tissue damage, and ruptured diaphragms and intestines, due to Israeli aggression in Gaza.
The initiative began when doctors, alongside colleagues from relief and non-governmental organizations such as the Refugee Organization in Cologne and the German Society of Plastic Surgery, sought to transport the 32 injured children to Germany. They raised funds to cover travel expenses, visa applications, and treatment costs. However, according to the semi-official ARD channel, the campaign ultimately stalled due to objections from the Interior and Foreign Ministries against allowing adult companions, even one per child.
The ministries stated that entry to Germany for treatment is possible for children under 12 without guardians, except for medical staff, a condition rejected by the involved relief organizations. Reports indicate that the failure to issue visas so far is linked to security concerns, not the children themselves but their guardians. There is a fear that the accompanying adults might be Hamas supporters.
Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime's decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.
Since the start of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has killed at least 38,919 Palestinians and injured 89,622 more. Thousands more are also missing and presumed dead under rubble.
