Escalating Tensions: Risks of US Military Buildup in the Middle East

Middle East: In recent weeks, the United States has significantly boosted its military presence in the region, coinciding with Iran and its allies' preparations for a potential strike against Israel. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin recently ordered the expedited deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier group, equipped with F-35C fighters, to the Central Command area. This follows the USS Georgia, a nuclear-powered submarine capable of launching cruise missiles, being sent to the region, along with the transfer of F-22 and F-35 fighter jets from Europe to Qatar's Al Udeid Air Base.

Kamel Al-Mamari, a journalist specializing in military affairs, views these moves as highly sensitive. He explains that the Resistance Axis, including Iran, Hezbollah, the Yemeni army, and Iraqi resistance groups, is preparing for a military response to Israel. These preparations are not just empty threats; they follow a series of US-Israeli escalations against Iran, Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq. Al-Mamari believes that the Resistance Axis views a military response as essential and is ready to escalate if Israel does.

He notes that the US is attempting to deter expected attacks from the Resistance Axis, but if the situation escalates further, the US might be forced into a direct war to defend Israel and its interests in the region.

The US Navy's situation is challenging, particularly in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and beyond, where it struggles to counter the Yemeni Armed Forces. This embarrassment may push Washington to bolster its deterrence or attempt to restore its image.

Al-Mamari suggests that the US's increased military presence in the Central Command area reflects growing tensions and places the US in direct confrontation with the Resistance Axis. This escalation could lead to a broader conflict, possibly starting with naval operations and expanding to large-scale air and missile strikes.

He concludes that the Resistance Axis has proven to be a significant force in the region, capable of altering the balance of power. Regardless of US actions, this reality won't change and could further isolate the US, exposing it to greater challenges in a region it once believed it could control without contest.

Al-Mamari emphasizes that the US military's recent moves, despite their intensity, might not alter the strategic balance. Instead, they could make US fleets easy targets for the Yemeni army, which has demonstrated its expertise in dealing with such threats. He warns that the US's increased naval presence could become a strategic liability rather than a deterrent, heightening the likelihood of successful attacks by the Yemeni forces.

In the end, Al-Mamari concludes that the US faces adversaries with considerable combat experience and adaptability, which could lead to unexpected outcomes favoring the Resistance Axis. He stresses the need for the Resistance Axis to be fully prepared for these scenarios, as US military maneuvers may increase the risk of a widespread conflict in the region.
