Foreign Ministry Condemns Riyadh's Return of Yemen Airways Flight, Demands Clarification, Apology

News - Yemen: A source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the Riyadh authorities’ returning of a Yemen Airways flight from its airspace during its journey to Jordan this Thursday morning as a violation of the agreement with the Saudi regime, which was overseen by the United Nations.

In a statement to the ministry, the source said, "Yemen considers this action an attempt to drag it into irresponsible and unjustified escalation, serving the interests of the Zionist enemy, who seeks to fuel conflict in the region to divert attention from the horrific crimes it is committing against the Palestinian people."

The source concluded by saying, "We expect a clarification and apology from the authorities responsible for returning the Yemen Airways flight."

Khalid Shaif, Director of Sana'a International Airport, announced on Thursday that Saudi Arabia has barred Yemen Airways from passing through its airspace. He stated that this action violates the UN agreement announced in late July.

Shaif explained on X that despite the ongoing air blockade on Yemen, Saudi authorities prevented a Yemen Airways flight from Sana'a to Queen Alia International Airport from crossing its airspace. The plane was forced to return to Sana'a despite completing all necessary procedures.

He added that a flight to Amman, coordinated with the Jeddah center, was also prevented. The majority of passengers were sick or in transit, leading to their suffering and losses as they missed connecting flights.

Shaif emphasized that there is no justification for blocking the plane and criticized the Saudi regime for continuing to impose air travel restrictions. He noted that Saudi actions contradict the recent UN agreement, which allows flights to Jordan and other countries with technical coordination rather than permission or oversight.

On July 23, Mohamed Abdulsalam, head of the National Delegation, announced an agreement between Yemen and Saudi Arabia to address humanitarian and economic issues.

The agreement included resuming Yemen Airways flights between Sana'a and Jordan, increasing flights to three daily, and adding routes to Cairo and India as needed. It also called for meetings to address economic, humanitarian, administrative, technical, and financial challenges facing Yemen Airways.
