Iran: Sayyed Nasrallah Mocked Myth of West Invincibility in 2006; Martyrdom Heralds New Chapter

News - Middle East: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi honors the legacy of the late secretary general of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who was martyred during recent Israeli airstrikes against Lebanon’s capital Beirut.

“Nasrallah mocked the myth of invincibility of the West’s military technologies,” the top diplomat wrote in an Arabic-language post on X on Monday.

He was referring to Hezbollah’s forcing the Israeli military, which had been fully equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry by the United States and the regime’s other Western allies, into beating a humiliating retreat under Nasrallah’s leadership during the regime’s 33-Day War of 2006 against Lebanon.

Araghchi also credited the resistance leader with having served as the “commander of the first Arab force that defeated the Israelis” and recaptured the Tel Aviv-occupied Lebanese territory.

Hezbollah had also fought off another such Israeli war in 2000, similarly defeating the regime and ending its 18-year-long occupation of southern Lebanon.

“He (Nasrallah) steadily turned the dream of the satanic entity into a nightmare over three decades,” the Iranian official noted.

“Now, he has the honor of martyrdom for the sake of al-Quds as he always wanted. There is no doubt that his blood will be a sign of the victory of right over wrong.”

The resistance leader was martyred on Friday during intense Israeli airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which took place as part of the regime’s ongoing escalation against Lebanon.

‘Resistance to emerge stronger’

Speaking to Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network earlier, Araghchi had also asserted that despite being a “great loss,” Nasrallah’s martyrdom "does not mean the end of the resistance.”

The martyrdom “rather heralds the beginning of a new chapter, characterized by greater strength,” he had noted, stating that "there are many great men in Hezbollah's ranks," who would vigorously keep up the movement’s anti-Israeli struggle.

In other statements made on Sunday, Araghchi stressed that the martyrdom of Sayyed Nasrallah "will not pass without a response, and will increase the strength of Hezbollah."
