He was no phantom.
Sinwar was not unknown to enemy intelligence; they knew everything about him after his 25-year imprisonment. Even after he was released through the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal, he did not hide. He walked through the streets of Gaza, attended public events, delivered fiery speeches, and participated in the March of Return in 2018. His file with Mossad and Shin Bet was extensive, but despite everything being known about him, Sinwar would disappear, leaving no trace, and reappear at unexpected moments.
Sinwar perplexed all enemy intelligence agencies, forcing them to invest significant resources in tracking him for years without success. This failure highlights how he managed to foil advanced surveillance technologies and spy networks, proving to be a master of security and discretion. Despite operating in the public eye, he left no clues for the enemy to follow, demonstrating impeccable security practices to avoid detection by human intelligence, signal intelligence, or surveillance technologies.
A fighter at point-blank range.
Sinwar’s secrecy was evident when, on a Saturday morning, Al-Qassam Brigades launched a surprise attack, crossing the Gaza border and hitting Israeli military bases, catching both enemies and allies off guard. Despite the large scale of the operation, involving thousands of fighters, total secrecy was maintained.
Even after a year of intense intelligence warfare, Western intelligence agencies remain clueless about how Al-Qassam planned and executed the operation, or how they amassed their weapons arsenal despite years of siege. The success of this operation marks it as the greatest achievement in the history of Palestinian resistance.
Throughout the conflict, Sinwar continued to manage the battle, evading enemy efforts to locate him. The enemy announced his death several times, imagining that he was hiding among prisoners, refugees, or in hospitals, but Abu Ibrahim was always on the frontlines, tracking enemy forces, engaging from the closest range, and providing guidance to commanders.
A model for all times.
For over a year, we have observed the ongoing conflict, taking note of how the enemy repeatedly launched intense military operations, only to later claim to have eliminated the last remaining fighter in targeted areas. Yet, Sinwar's leadership showed how the resistance continuously reorganized itself, concealed its tactics, secured its supplies, and replenished its ranks with fresh fighters despite constant surveillance.
Sinwar's legacy will live on, shaping the future of resistance, inspiring new tactics, and showing a different style of leadership that drives the struggle against occupation until the liberation of the sacred land.
