News - Middle East: Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has called on the Security Council to vehemently condemn the recent deadly terrorist attack on a police convoy in the country’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

Amir Saeid Iravani made the remarks in a letter to the UN chief and the Security Council’s president on Saturday, hours after the so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group killed 10 Iranian police officers in an ambush on their vehicles in Sistan and Baluchestan’s Taftan county.

He said that the foreign-backed terrorist group with close links to Daesh has a long record of attacks on innocent Iranian civilians and policemen, and thus its acts of terror require immediate and unequivocal denunciation by the international community.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns this heinous act of terrorism in the strongest terms and reaffirms its resolve to bring those responsible to justice, ensuring they face full accountability for their crimes,” he added.

“We call on the Security Council to issue a resolute press statement that unequivocally condemns this heinous terrorist attack.”

‘The so-called Jaish al-Adl, based in Pakistan, has in recent years claimed responsibility for several terror assaults across the border province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

On September 13, the notorious group targeted the vehicle of Iranian border guards at a gas station in Sistan and Baluchestan’s Mirjaveh county, killing an officer and two conscripts.

The envoy expressed Iran’s “unwavering” commitment to safeguarding its nation from “the ruthless threat posed by these violent terrorist organizations.”

As a country that has borne the catastrophic impact of terrorism, Iran stands firm in its mission to combat and eliminate the scourge in all its forms and manifestations, he emphasized.
