Iran Parl. Speaker: Hezbollah Spox Martyred in Israel Criminal Gang’s Unequal War Against Media Workers
News - Middle East: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has extended his condolences over the martyrdom of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah’s media relations chief Mohammed Afif in an Israeli strike in central Beirut.
In a message on Monday, Qalibaf lamented that another media activist has been martyred as the genocidal Israeli criminal gang continues its crimes and heinous killing of international media staff and journalists in an unequal war against the defenseless people of Palestine and Lebanon.
He hailed Afif’s courageous presence on the battlefield and his defense of the resistance of the oppressed Lebanese people.
The top Iranian parliamentarian expressed confidence that the path of the Hezbollah media relations chief will be continued with the presence of freethinking media activists.
On Sunday night, Hezbollah officially confirmed that its media relations chief was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike that hit the headquarters of the Baath political party in the densely populated Ras al-Naba neighborhood, in central Beirut.
Lebanon’s health ministry said four people were killed in the Israeli aggression.
The assassination came after Afif confirmed that Hezbollah was behind targeting Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home last month.
This was the second assassination attempt on Afif in the last two months. He survived an attack on the Hezbollah media relations office several weeks ago.
Israel launched a ground assault and massive air campaign against Lebanon in late September after a year of exchanging fire across the Lebanese border in parallel with the Gaza war.
At least 3,287 people have been killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon over the past year, with the vast majority in the past seven weeks. At least 14,222 others have been also wounded, mostly women and children.
In response to the ongoing aggression, Hezbollah has been staging hundreds of retaliatory strikes against Israeli military bases and the regime’s forces trying to advance on southern Lebanese areas.
The movement has vowed to continue its strikes until the regime ends the escalation.
