The Defense Ministry of Syria said in a statement that the airstrike hit residential buildings and an industrial zone on Wednesday.
The attack led to “significant material damage to the targeted buildings and the surrounding area."
According to the statement, Israeli jets attacked from the direction of the al-Tanf area, a US military base in the Homs Governorate in central Syria.
Palmyra is known for the historic Roman temple complex nearby, which already suffered significant damage years ago amid the outbreak of the Western-backed war in Syria in 2011. Israel has ever since carried out a considerable number of strikes on the country.
On November 16, Israeli airstrikes on the capital Damascus killed at least 15 people, including women and children, Syrian officials said.
Earlier this month, Syria’s Foreign Ministry urged the United Nations “to take urgent action and firm measures to stop the Israeli aggression and hold its perpetrators accountable for their crimes.”
Israel frequently targets military positions inside Syria, especially those of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, which has played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists.
