Shura Council Condemns Israeli Aggression on Syrian Territories

News - Yemen: Yemen's Shura Council denounced the Israeli aggression against Syria, including the occupation of new positions in the demilitarized zone with Syria, the bombing of vital facilities, and the destruction of Syria's defensive capabilities.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the council described the cowardly Israeli assault on Syria as an extension of the blatant violations and genocidal war crimes committed by the Zionist entity in Palestine, Lebanon, and the region, disregarding human values, international laws, and treaties.

The council stressed that the actions of the Israeli enemy in Syria constitute a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty, a breach of international law, and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. It sounded the alarm on Israel's relentless efforts to impose its hegemony and pursue colonial expansion in the region with support from the US and Western countries.

The council called on the Association of Senates, Shura, and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab world to take a firm stance against Israeli escalation, condemn these attacks, and exert pressure in international forums to prevent the Zionist entity from continuing its blatant violations in Syria and Palestine.

In recent days, Israel has escalated its systematic attacks on Syria, targeting strategic military positions and critical infrastructure across the country. The Israeli military reported launching around 480 strikes within a span of 48 hours, claiming to have hit key facilities, including weapons stockpiles, anti-aircraft batteries, and military production sites.

Reports indicate significant damage, including the destruction of weapons depots, naval vessels, and a research center. In Latakia, a navy vessel armed with machine guns and rocket launchers was observed partially submerged in the water, illustrating the extent of the damage caused by the strikes.

According to Al Jazeera’s reporting from Damascus, the attacks also targeted airports in Homs, Qamishli, and Damascus, along with other strategic military assets. The report suggested that Israel’s actions are part of a deliberate campaign to weaken Syria’s defensive capabilities, ostensibly to prevent strategic equipment from falling into the hands of opposition forces.

In addition to airstrikes, Israeli troops have reportedly moved into the buffer zone east of the occupied Golan Heights. While the regime denies advancing toward Damascus, the presence of Israeli forces in the area has raised alarms about further escalation.

Israeli War Minister Israel Katz claimed that the Israeli navy had successfully destroyed the Syrian military fleet in an operation on Monday, marking one of the most significant blows to Syria’s defense infrastructure in recent years.

The strikes come amid Syria’s ongoing recovery from years of conflict. Mohammed al-Bashir, newly appointed as Syria’s caretaker prime minister, has yet to comment on the aggression, but international condemnations are mounting. Observers and nations worldwide have criticized Israel’s violation of Syrian sovereignty, warning of the broader implications for regional stability.

This wave of attacks underscores the enduring tensions in the region and the challenges faced by Syria as it grapples with internal rebuilding efforts alongside external aggression. The strikes also highlight Israel’s increasingly aggressive posture, justified by claims of preventing military resources from being used by adversaries, while raising serious concerns about its disregard for international law and sovereignty.
