Dec. 24 Over 9 Years: 65 Casualties in US-Saudi Airstrikes on Yemen

Yemen: On December 24, over the years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2021, the US-Saudi aggression deliberately committed war crimes and acts of genocide. Through brutal airstrikes and artillery bombardment, civilians were targeted in their homes, markets, farms, roads, and pastures. The attacks also destroyed schools, hospitals, residential neighborhoods, and infrastructure in Sana'a, Sa'adah, Ibb, and Al-Jawf governorates.

These crimes resulted in 35 deaths and 30 injuries, including women, children, and African migrants. The destruction extended to homes, businesses, schools, and other properties, instilling fear, forcing displacement, deepening suffering, and depriving families of their livelihood and basic rights to a dignified and secure life.

Highlights of the Incidents:

2015: Targeting Education in Sa'adah

On this day, the US-Saudi aggression added another atrocity to its record, deliberately targeting two schools in Al-Talh, Sahar District, Sa'adah Governorate.

A Double Massacre Against Education:

Late at night, an airstrike destroyed Ammar bin Yasser School. The following morning, another strike leveled Al-Munadhil Boys' School. The attacks obliterated not only the buildings but also thousands of books and educational materials, depriving an entire generation of their right to education.

  • Impact: Widespread ignorance, displacement of students and teachers, worsening humanitarian crises, and a bleak future for Yemen's youth.

2016: A Family Erased in Ibb

In Wadi Al-Hosn, Ibb Governorate, an airstrike wiped out the family of Adnan Ali Masad.

  • Casualties: Eight were killed, including a mother and six children, while six others were critically injured. The humble home was reduced to rubble.

2016: Farmer and Vehicle Targeted in Sa'adah

Two separate incidents occurred on this day:

  • A farmer was killed in Baqim District when an airstrike targeted farmlands.
  • A vehicle in Razih District was destroyed, causing panic among locals and restricting movement.

2017: Civilians Attacked in Sa'adah

Motorcyclist Killed: A man was torn to shreds in Razih District when an airstrike struck his motorcycle.
Home Targeted: Three family members were injured when a residential home in Al-Hajlah was bombed during lunch.

2019: Market Massacre in Sa'adah

Mass Casualties: Artillery bombardment on Al-Raqu Market, Munabbih District, killed 24 people and injured 20 others, including African migrants.

  • Horrific Scenes: The market, a hub of life and commerce, turned into a scene of carnage, with bodies and blood scattered everywhere.
  • A Migrant's Dream Ends in Tragedy: Many African migrants, seeking refuge and livelihood, fell victim to the attack.

2019: Children Targeted in Al-Jawf
Victims: A child shepherd was killed, and another severely injured in Al-Jawf as artillery shells fell while they herded sheep.

2021: Devastation in Al-Zubairi District, Sana’a

  • Targets: A bakery, Alia Hospital, homes, and businesses were destroyed, forcing mass displacement.

These repeated atrocities highlight the US-Saudi coalition's deliberate targeting of civilians, in violation of international humanitarian law. Yemeni voices cry out for justice, urging the international community to act and hold the perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
