News - Middle East: A former United Nations official has said the Israeli regime’s ongoing aggression against medical facilities, including hospitals, across the Gaza Strip constituted a “flagrant violation” of the international law.

Lex Takkenberg, an international lawyer and former senior official with the UNRWA, the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees, told Qatar’s Al Jazeera television network on Friday that the “normal presumption” in international humanitarian law was that medical facilities and schools “must be respected”.

“It should not be subject to a search, attack or any other form of interference,” he said.

“The clear pattern of attacks on medical facilities, of which these latest and ongoing attacks on Kamal Adwan Hospital … are once again flagrant violations of international humanitarian law constituting flagrant violations of international criminal law.”

The remarks came amid the regime’s war of genocide on Gaza that has so far claimed the lives of more than 45,400 people, mostly women and children.

Jordan condemns Israeli raid

Also on Friday, Jordan’s Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital in the “strongest terms”.

In a statement, the ministry said the forced evacuation of patients and medical staff was a “flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law and a heinous war crime that is added to Israel’s ongoing crimes in the Strip”.

Spokesperson Sufyan Qudah stressed Jordan’s “absolute rejection” of the targeting of medical facilities, calling on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to prevent the regime from continuing its “aggression” on Gaza, end the humanitarian crisis across the territory, and “hold those responsible accountable”.
