On Int. Children's Day, State Department Calls for An End to Saudi-led Aggression Crimes against Yemeni Children, Put Back Saudi Arabia to List of Shame

News - Yemen - Sana'a: An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for an end to the crimes and violations committed against the children of Yemen by the US-Saudi aggression for the past sixth year. It indicated that the world celebrates the International Children's Day on November 20, at a time when the children of Yemen are exposed to the most heinous crimes and serious violations by the US-Saudi aggression. Yemeni children are subjected to killing, maiming and the bombing of their schools and hospitals. The Aggression is depriving them of their health and educational rights, impeding humanitarian aid and other violations that are being committed. All of that is happening before the eyes of the world that turns its back to those children.

The source pointed out that according to United Nations statistics, there are about 12.2 million children in Yemen in need of humanitarian aid, more than five million children under the age of five suffer from malnutrition, about 1.71 million displaced children, and more than two million children out of school. In addition to the death of children due to the lack of vaccinations. The source pointed out that the aggression coalition caused the killing of more than 3,790 children, and the wounding of more than 4,089 others.

The source renewed the condemnation of the National Salvation Government  for the removal of the aggression led by Saudi Arabia from the list of shame for violators of children's rights by the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Removing the aggression from the list of shame represented a setback for the efforts of the United Nations in the field of protecting and promoting children's rights in the world and gave Saudi Arabia the green light to continue committing war crimes against the children of Yemen.

The source demanded, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to re-include the Saudi-led aggression coalition in the list of shame for the United Nations to avoid being a partner in killing the children of Yemen. The National Salvation Government is keen to respect international humanitarian law and international human rights law and to protect and promote children's rights in Yemen. It pointed out that Yemen is one of the first countries to join the International Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Optional Protocols attached to it.
Yemen issued a number of laws that guarantee the rights of the child, foremost among which are Child Rights Law No. 45 of 2002 and Child Welfare Law No. 24 of 1992.

The source pointed out that due to the importance of protecting children during the Armed Conflict, on April 16, 2020, a resolution was signed regarding the treatment of detained children, who were recruited by the countries of the Saudi-led aggression coalition and other armed groups, and who were captured during military operations and handed over to the civilian authorities. This was in coordination between the Ministry of Defense in the National Salvation Government, represented by the National Committee for Prisoners' Affairs, and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor. The authorities are currently preparing a plan to protect children in cooperation with the United Nations.

The source concluded the statement by calling on the countries of the free world, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, his Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, the Security Council, the Human Rights Council, and the concerned organizations, especially the United Nations Children's Fund "UNICEF" and the human rights and humanitarian organizations, to condemn the crimes committed against the children of Yemen. The world should pressure the Saudi aggression to end the crimes against the children  and present the  perpetrators to justice to receive their just and deterrent punishment.
