Ignoring Crimes Committed in Yemen, Britain Continues Exporting Arms to Saudi Arabia

News - Yemen:  Oxfam Relief Organization has warned against continuing to sell British weapons to the Saudi-led coalition in its war against Yemen. Oxfam accused the British government of prolonging the Yemeni war by licensing the sale of fuel supply equipment in the air, which the Saudis might use in conducting air strikes on Yemen.

Britain authorized the sale of this technology to Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2020 when restrictions on issuing licenses for the sale of military equipment were lifted. Along with another military sales of 1.4 billion pounds.

"At a time when the United States has demanded an end to the conflict, Britain is moving in the other direction and increasing its support for the brutal war led by Saudi Arabia," said Director of the Policy Unit at Oxfam Relief, Sam Nadel.

Nadel noted that Britain has increased arms deals and fuel supply equipment that facilitate raids. Battles are raging around the city of Marib, which remains the only stronghold for Hadi government in the north.

He added, Britain claims that it supports peace in Yemen, and it can start directly by stopping arms deals that could be used against civilians and increase the humanitarian crisis.

The administration of US President Joe Biden announced at the beginning of this month that it would stop all arms sales to Saudi Arabia that could be used in military operations.

Italy said it had suspended a missile deal to the kingdom. However, it has withstood pressure to stop arms sales, at a time of heightened humanitarian crisis due to the war that began in 2014 and has killed a quarter of a million people.
