News-Middle East -Palestine : The United Nations Security Council met on Monday, urgently to discuss the confrontations in Al-Quds between Palestinians, between the owners of the land and the Israeli occupation forces and the settlers, according to (New York Times).

Discussions will continue on the text, which is expected to be softened compared to the initial document, proposed by Norway to the fifteen members of the Security Council. Tunisia called for the meeting according to diplomatic sources within the council.

The draft declaration, which was submitted jointly with Tunisia and China, called on Israel to halt settlement activities, attacks, demolitions and expulsions against the Palestinians, including in East Al-Quds.

The document included the Council's expression of grave concern about the escalation of tensions and acts of violence in the occupied West Bank, including East Al-Quds. It also called for restraint and refraining from all provocation and (inflammatory) rhetoric, and preserving and respecting the historical status quo in the holy sites.

During the closed-door videoconference, USA made it clear to its partners that it was working behind the scenes to calm the situation and is not sure whether to issue announcement or send public message at this stage, diplomat said.

This is a common practice by the United Nations Security Council in which it gives the Israeli enemy a grace period to try to wine its way. If the Zionists fail with their plans and Palestinians start to make any gains with their basic means of self-defense compared to the unmeasurable military capabilities of the Israeli army, the UNSC will come to the rescue requesting restraint and respecting the status quo.
