Bahraini Detainee Goes on Hunger Strike to Protest Ill-treatment

News – Middle East – Bahrain: Bahraini detainee Sayed Muhammad Anwar announced that he had entered a hunger strike in Jaw Prison in Bahrain, in protest against his ill-treatment.

The detainee, from the town of Jid Hafs, said in an audio recording, "I announce that I have entered into an open hunger strike, starting on Sunday, September 5, to protest against my ill-treatment and denial of treatment."

Anwar explained that he suffers from severe visual impairment and that one of his eyes is supervising blindness due to the treatment of the prison administration and the doctors. He singled out the representative, Rashid Al-Dosari, who did not respond to his requests to be transferred for treatment outside the prison.

The detainee, Anwar, confirmed that he had been patient for two years and could no longer deal, pleading to make his voice heard and shed light on the cruel treatment he is being subjected to and denial of treatment in Khalifia prisons. He concluded his audio recording by saying, “I would rather die seeking my rights than live without dignity and rights.”
