Bahraini Prisoner Al-Singace Continues His Open Strike for 127 Days

News - Middle East - Bahrain: Bahraini detainee Abduljalil Al-Singace, one of the faces of the peaceful opposition and well-known academic in Bahrain, continues his hunger strike, which has been going on since last July.

Al-Singace's weight has so far decreased by more than 20 kilograms, and his health is in great danger in Joe prison, as a result of continued harassment by prison guards, while the research work he was doing while in detention was arbitrarily confiscated.

Al-Singace is serving an arbitrary life sentence for his peaceful movement during the February 14, 2011 revolution. He is one of the first to be detained in a long series of arrests in the country.

On July 18, 2021, Al-Singace began his open hunger strike, however, 10 days after the start of the strike, he was transferred to the military hospital and is still there to this day under heavy guard.

There have been alarming developments in Al-Singace's condition after entering 127 days of a hunger strike, as he began to experience bouts of rotation and loss of balance, and swelling appears clearly in his hands.

The popular movement in solidarity with Al-Singace and the rest of the detainees continues, in addition to launching the hashtag "#Freedom_for_Al-Singace" on Twitter. The Bahraini Press Association called on the authorities to release him immediately and provide him with urgent medical assistance.

The association held the security authorities in Jaw prison fully responsible for Al-Singace's safety, considering that the unfair political trial, the natural disability and the repercussions of the hunger strike make the detainee's condition a humanitarian case that calls for urgent intervention.

The February 14 Revolution Youth Coalition also held the Khalif regime responsible for any misfortune that might befall Al-Singace as a result of his strike and his continued imprisonment.

The Bahrain Detainees Committee also condemned the arrest of Al-Singace, stressing that he suffers from the harshest periods of torture and systematic deprivation of his right to treatment, calling for solidarity with him.
