Report: Yemeni Retaliatory Attack on UAE Exposed Abu Dhabi's Vulnerability

Middle East: The qualitative military E'sar Al-Yemen operation (Operation Hurricane Yemen), which was carried out by the Yemeni Armed Forces in the UAE, has exposed the vulnerability of the oil-rich nation, which has long prided itself on its security and stability, a London-based daily newspaper reported.

According to the Financial Times, the operation underscored the scale of the assault and the threat posed by the Yemeni Army. It added that this week’s attack was the first time the UAE, which is Saudi Arabia’s main partner in the coalition and deployed thousands of troops to Yemen, has acknowledged such an attack on its territory.

The newspaper considered that the comments of Yousef al-Otaiba, the UAE’s ambassador in Washington, confirm it was a much larger and bolder assault on the UAE, which is home to the region’s dominant trade, finance and tourism hub. It will heighten concerns about the increasing sophistication of the Yemeni Army’ arsenal.

The Financial Times quoted Otaiba as saying that there were “several attacks”, adding that some of the projectiles were intercepted by the Gulf state’s defense systems and a “few of them” were not.

The newspaper pointed out that Otaiba's statements came at an event organized by the Jewish Institute for National Security of America, he said a “combination of cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones" were used in the operation.

On Monday, the Armed Forces announced a qualitative military operation, targeting the Emirati depth, in response to the escalation of the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression.

The armed forces said in a statement that the operation targeted the Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports, the Musaffah oil refinery in Abu Dhabi and a number of important and sensitive Emirati sites and facilities.

Operation Hurricane Yemen was successfully carried out with five ballistic and winged missiles and a large number of drones, Brigadier General Yahya Sare’e explained.

The Armed Forces renewed their warning to the countries of aggression that they will receive more painful blows and warned foreign companies, citizens and residents of the UAE enemy state to stay away from vital sites and facilities for their own safety.

"We will not hesitate to widen the target bank to include even more important sites and installations during the coming period,” the spokesman for the Armed Forces warned, declaring that the UAE is an unsafe state as long as its aggressive escalation against Yemen continues.

The UAE has recently escalated its aggression against Yemen, by sending forces under its command, which it calls the Giants Brigades, formed from Salafist, Takfiri and Daesh groups, to attack the districts of Shabwa Governorate. It has also escalated its aggression by transferring weapons and military equipment to militias affiliated with the aggression through Yemeni territorial waters.
