Downing US-Saudi Operated Drones Confirm Lack of Seriousness in Making Peace

Yemen: Although the terms of the humanitarian and military truce in Yemen, which entered into force on last April 2, stipulate the cessation of all military operations by both parties, the US-Saudi did not abide by the truce, continuing its military violations, including sending spy drones repeatedly to carry out hostile actions.

The aggression’s hostile flight operations were not limited to the fronts, but went beyond them to reach populated areas, including the capital, Sana’a, which witnessed the downing of a Chinese-made spy drone belonging to the Saudi force by the Air Defenses of the Armed Forces last Monday night.

Four spy drones were downed during the truce

Since the beginning of the UN-sponsored truce and until today, four spy drones belonging to the aggression were shot down while carrying out hostilities.

On May 4, The Yemeni Air Defenses of the Army and Popular Committees shot down a  Chinese-made CH-4 spy drone, in the border district of Haradh in Hajjah Governorate.

On May 21, The Air Defenses announced shooting down a Turkish-made "Karayel" spy drone operated by the Saudi Air Force in Hajjah.

On the 23rd of the same month, they shot down a Chinese-made CH4 spy drone belonging to the aggression in the airspace of the capital, Sana’a.

On May 24, the Yemeni Armed Forces announced that the air defenses had shot down a Chinese- made Wing Loong2 fighting drone operated by Saudi Air Force in Sa'adah governorate, at dawn.

Angry reactions

The head of the National Delegation, Mohammad Abdulsalam, said that the flying of spy drones in the capital, Sana'a, is an aggressive practice that confirms the lack of respect by the US-Saudi aggression for the existing UN-sponsored truce.

Denouncing the UN’s silence, Abdulsalam said "If Yemens' drones flew over Saudi capital, then the positions of the United Nations and other parties would have been different."

Regarding extending the truce, the member of the National Delegation Abdulmalik Alejri affirmed that the delegation has not discussed this issue with the United Nations so far, stressing the need to implement the provisions of the truce first in the required manner and that any extension will be by improving humanitarian conditions.

Will the United Nations pressure on the aggression to implement its humanitarian obligations and stop its military violations, including sending spy drones? This is what the coming days will reveal.
