Transport Minister: Stumble of Flights to Cairo Continues

News - Yemen: Minister of Transport in the Salvation Government confirmed that the remaining flights to Jordan were scheduled for the remainder of the truce period, with a flight every Wednesday and Friday.

Minister Abdulwahab Al-Durra revealed in a press statement on Saturday evening that flights to Cairo from Sana’a Airport are still stumbling, except for one flight.

In early April, the UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the nationwide ceasefire, for the first time since 2015, saying the two-month truce would be eligible for renewal with the consent of parties. The truce meant to halt all military operations in the country and to bring the foreign military invasion to an end.

The deal stipulates halting offensive military operations, including cross-border attacks, and allowing fuel-laden ships to enter Yemen's lifeline al-Hudaydah port and commercial flights in and out of the airport in the capital Sana'a "to predetermined destinations in the region."

The humanitarian truce in Yemen provides for the operation of two commercial flights per week to and from Sana’a Airport during the truce to Jordan and Egypt. However, the forces of aggression have been obstructing the implementation of the truce, refusing to allow flights to reach Sana’a International Airport.

The director of Sana'a International Airport, Khaled Al-Shayef, has confirmed that Sana'a Airport is fully prepared, and there are no justifications for delaying flights.

He pointed out that the United Nations and other organizations remained silent about the aggression's obstruction of flights to and from Sana'a airport, stressing that the international organizations are not concerned with opening the airport to the Yemeni citizen because they enjoy the freedom to use the airport and their flights arrive continuously.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport pointed out that the road opening is still stumbling because the committees of the Saudi-backed party do not have the authority and their formation does not reflect an intention to solve this issue.

In early June, the National Salvation Government announced the implementation of a unilateral initiative, to raise the earthen barriers in preparation for the opening of a road inside the city of Taiz.

Negotiations of opening roads in Jordan are without outcomes after a 2-day discussion. The National Committee says that the talks do not go beyond limited roads in Taiz.

The Saudi-backed party does not have a decision to talk about the rest of the roads and closed outlets, which is a short conception of comprehensive solutions that include closed outlets in more than one governorate, including Al-Dhalae and Marib.

President Mahdi Al-Mashat affirmed that if the military negotiating committee in Jordan does not see new signs regarding closed roads to alleviate suffering of Yemeni people, the committee will announce a unilateral initiative.

He added that the US-Saudi aggression is sparing no effort to exploit the suffering of the citizens in Taiz governorate, explaining that there is a varying agenda of the Saudi-backed government that uses the suffering and difficult conditions in Taiz and the various governorates.

The Chairman of National Military CommitteeYahya Abdullah Al-Razami has handed President Al-Mashat a detailed report on the proposals submitted by the United Nations to open roads in Taiz and the others of governorates.

Razami indicated the readiness of the National side to implement the initiative that was unilaterally presented, with the aim of progressing in the negotiations.

He called on the representatives of the United Nations to go with the Committee to Taiz Governorate and examine the reality to prove the seriousness of the National side to know the party obstructing the opening of humanitarian outlets.

He reiterated the National side's keenness to alleviate the suffering of the people of Taiz and all the people of the country, and affirm that the ball is in the court of the Saudi-backed side.

Razami considered that the Saudi-backed side must realize the humanitarian responsibility towards the Yemeni people, who are still suffering from an unjust and brutal siege and aggression.
