FAO Exploits Food Insecurity in Yemen, Raises $50 Million to Squander

News - Yemen: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) announced that it is seeking this year to raise $50 million to implement its activities to address food insecurity (famine) in Yemen, where millions face starvation, due to severe funding gaps, global inflation and the indirect impact of the war in Ukraine.

The FAO office in Yemen said in a statement that the organization seeks to reach 1.5 million affected people in Yemen during 2022, in addition to helping it rebuild and restore agricultural productivity and create livelihood opportunities in the face of ever-increasing food and nutrition insecurity.

Disruptions to global wheat supplies due to the war in Ukraine, as well as India's ban on its wheat exports, risk deepening the hunger crisis in Yemen and driving up food prices, which have already doubled in just two years in some parts of the country.

Yemen is one of the largest importers of wheat from Ukraine and Russia in the region, as it imports a third of its wheat needs from both countries.

The war waged by the US-Saudi aggression on Yemen for the eighth year in a row has destroyed the country's economy, displaced millions and soared food prices.

During the past years, the US-Saudi aggression and blockade of Yemen have created the worst humanitarian disaster in the world. It was not only the countries involved in the aggression that caused the disaster, the United Nations helped. United Nations relief organizations are killing the Yemeni People.

Exploiting the situation in Yemen, humanitarian organizations in Yemen are sending ships that are laden with tons of food that is unfit for human consumption, disregarding the suffering of Yemeni people. Since 2015, Yemen Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control Organization in Hodeidah has rejected 24 shipments belonging to the World Food Program.

Almasirah channel received a number of reports revealing another type of the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression on Yemen and its committed crimes against Yemenis. Since November 2018, nearly six ships with tons of rotten, damaged, expired flour have been returned.

On November 6, the authority returned the ship Sarah, which carries 10,000 tons of white wheat following the World Food Program. The wheat was rotten, expired and unfit for human consumption. After checking, the presence of live insects and strange materials was revealed. Another lading followed, it violated the specifications, standards and quality control in the ship Amina. In February 2019, 96000 bags of white flour with a total weight of 4 million and three hundred kilograms were returned as they do not have the production date.

In May 2019, the UN World Food Program (WFP) sent more than 160,000 bags of wheat that are unsuitable for human consumption in the Jetty Marit ship. After the examination, it was shown that more than 8 million kilograms of wheat contains dead insects. This month, two shipments of wheat and white beans were returned because they did not meet the specifications and standards. The first was on June 3 and contained 9718 bean bags. They were wet, rotten and unfit for human consumption. On June 11, the other was examined and discovered that it contained insects in 120 thousand bags of them.

The United Nations World Food Program has great disregard of the Yemeni humanitarian suffering. It exceeded the use of poor storage and distribution of expired products to sending ships loaded with tons of rotten and expired flour that is unfit for human consumption. These are some of the evidence of the World Food Program exploitation for the sufferings of the Yemenis and their human tragedies, which is no less horrifying than what the war machine does.
