Protest in Hodeidah Condemns Saudi-seizure of Diesel Ship Used for Electricity Generation

News - Yemen: A protest was organized in the city of Hodeidah, denouncing the prevention of the US-Saudi aggression from entering the diesel ship "Golden Eagle", which is affiliated with the electricity sector.

The participants in the vigil raised banners and chanted slogans expressing their condemnation of the aggression coalition's seizure of the ship, considering this a flagrant violation of the truce.

They called on the United Nations to take a serious stance to implement what is related to the payment of the salaries of state employees in accordance with the provisions of the truce.

Governor Mohammed Qahim indicated that the exit of the people of the province today confirms their rejection and condemnation of the violations committed by the US-Saudi aggression by seizing the diesel ship of Hodeidah Electricity.

He called on the international community and the UN envoy to take a clear position on these arbitrary practices committed by the US-Saudi aggression and its continuation to multiply the suffering of the Yemeni people.

A statement issued by the sit-in condemned the detention of the "Golden Eagle" ship, which was loaded with diesel for Hodeidah electricity, despite obtaining entry permits from the UN.

The statement helds the UN responsible for the actions of the forces of aggression and its violation of the truce, calling for pressure on the US-Saudi aggression to release the ship and allow it to enter the port.

Earlier, Al-Mutawakel confirmed that the piracy of fuel tankers during the truce period cost Yemen $5 million, and 5 ships are still being detained off Jizan.

He pointed out that due to fluctuations in global stock exchange prices, fines for impounded fuel ships increased from $20,000 per day to $35,000.

In early April, after Yemen’s Supreme Political Council declared a voluntary and unilateral three-day pause in retaliatory strikes against targets in Saudi Arabia, the UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the nationwide ceasefire, for the first time since 2015.

The deal stipulates halting offensive military operations, including cross-border attacks, and allowing fuel-laden ships to enter Yemen's lifeline Hodeidah port and commercial flights in and out of the airport in the capital Sana'a "to predetermined destinations in the region."

However, in light of UN silence, the Saudi-led aggression was still obstructing flights to the Sana'a International Airport in Yemen’s capital and detaining fuel ships that were headed to the country. The fires of the aggression side did not subside along the fronts, on the borders and inside, including shelling, reconnaissance, development and crawl.

In early June, the United Nations announced that Yemen’s National Salvation Government and the US-Saudi coalition have agreed to renew the two-month truce after days of negotiations and promises to fulfill the terms of the agreement.

The UN envoy noted that the truce was extended under the same terms as the previous one.

The United Nations continues to condone the crimes committed by the Saudi-led aggression. It only holds the coalition responsible for crimes when it seeks to blackmail the Kingdom and oblige it to pay millions of dollars. The UN is not concerned with the souls of the victims, as it provided cover for this aggression for years, and kept silent in the face of many of its criminal practices, whether through raids or sieges.
