Foreign Ministry Says International Forums Legitimizing Aggression against Yemen

News - Yemen: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that meetings and statements in international forums do not reflect the reality of what was caused by the US-Saudi aggression and siege on Yemen.

In its response to the joint statement issued by the US State Department on September 22, following the meeting of the group referred to as (P5+4), which included the five permanent members of the Security Council with the participation of the Netherlands, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that this statement came as a review of the reality of the relevant events with the recent truce, in addition to the issue of the Safer tanker. The Ministry pointed out that the statement did not address the suffering due to the continuation of the US-Saudi aggression and comprehensive siege imposed on Yemen for eight years, in light of international silence and complicity.

The Foreign Ministry pointed out that such meetings and statements serve to legitimize the aggression, adding that they always shied away from their responsibility for the aggression's consequences. The ministry noted that such meetings and statements do not contribute to build real and serious peace steps or develop actual solutions to the suffering of millions of Yemeni citizens.

The ministry added, "With all appreciation to the countries that are trying to find solutions or push for advanced steps to end the aggression on Yemen, the time has come to address the countries of aggression to end their continuous aggression."

Regarding the futility of military solutions and resorting to political and diplomatic solutions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Supreme Political Council and the National Salvation Government have always addressed the international community with this.

It noted that the reference to military parades in the statement was wrong and that Sana'a builds its military capabilities to defend Yemeni lands and borders, and does not target a specific country, and that this army is the People's Protection Army and the Republic of Yemen. The ministry touched on a number of the current truce aspect, which expires in early October, explaining that this statement did not refer to the many violations that accompanied it and for which the other party was responsible. This was represented by deliberately detaining oil derivatives ships and not complying with the number of flights and the agreed destinations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded its statement by emphasizing Sana’a’ s interest in finding an appropriate and effective solution regarding the tanker Safer, appreciating the international community’s interaction in this aspect.

Foreign Ministry noted in its statement that Sana'a's firm position to work with humanitarian and development partners to find appropriate solutions and financial and technical support in order to achieve economic recovery, stabilization plans and peace building.

On 21 September 2022, vice ministers and senior official representatives of the permanent five members of the United Nations Security Council and the European Union, Germany, Kuwait and Sweden, hereafter referred to as the P5+4, met to discuss concrete steps to support an extension of the truce agreed upon by the Yemeni parties until 2 October and the start of a political process to end the conflict in Yemen. The Netherlands, Oman, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates participated as guests.

Recently, a UN-brokered truce in Yemen came into effect on 2 April, and for an initial two months.  It was renewed for another two months in June.

The deal stipulated halting offensive military operations, including cross-border attacks, and allowing fuel-laden ships to enter Yemen's lifeline Hodeidah port and commercial flights in and out of the airport in the capital Sana'a "to predetermined destinations in the region."

However, in light of UN silence, the Saudi-led aggression was still obstructing flights to the Sana'a International Airport in Yemen’s capital and detaining fuel ships that were headed to the country. The fires of the aggression side did not subside along the fronts, on the borders and inside, including shelling, reconnaissance, development and crawl.

When the period specified for the military and humanitarian truce was nearing its end, the US-Saudi aggression seemed to be in a hurry to adopt the option of extending it for the third time to freeze the battle in Yemen and its economic repercussions away from global energy markets.

The forces of aggression are pushing for an extension, not out of concern for peace, but rather out of fear that the escalation will add more complications to the international scene in addition to the crisis imposed by the Russian-Ukrainian war.

A truce, the positive effects of which have not been felt by the citizens over the past months, despite its broad headlines. Commercial flights to Cairo are still stumbling until today, and the navy of aggression continues to pursue fuel ships without respect for agreements or any regard for international laws and norms.

Double standards regarding the violations of the forces of aggression and its provocative practices is a double UN policy that has brought the crisis in Yemen to its current level of misery and deprivation that has affected everyone far from justice and the realization of the rights of the Yemeni people.

The truce has been renewed for an additional two months through 2 October, UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced on Tuesday.

The extension includes a commitment by the Saudi-led aggression and the Salvation Government to intensify negotiations to reach an expanded agreement as soon as possible.
