Foreign Minister: UNSC Bias with US-Saudi Aggression, Ignors Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen

News - Yemen: Yemeni Foreign Minister censured the press statement issued by the Security Council yesterday, and its attempt to overturn the facts in a clear bias with the US-Saudi party, ignoring the deteriorating humanitarian situation during the past eight years.

Minister Hisham Sharaf stressed that the demands of Sana'a are clear and purely human rights, which somewhat reduce the repercussions of the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the world, created by the US-Saudi aggression, according to Saba news agency.

He demanded the Security Council to assump its responsibilities to end the military aggression and the comprehensive blockade, saying: “The aggression and the blockade in Yemen is contrary to the United Nations Charter in Preserving International Peace and Security. Thus the Security Council must not turn into an international platform that justifies and legitimizes the agenda and politics of the aggression.

The Foreign Minister stressed the need for concerted efforts locally, regionally and internationally to achieve a just and sustainable peace that serves the Yemeni people.

He renewed the call to all the people in the world to realize the seriousness of the position of Sana'a, which was expressed by the Supreme Political Council, indicating that the demands of Sana'a are humanitarian and aim to ensure the success of any truce that may be agreed upon.

Describing the recent truce, he said it was a state of no war and no peace, but prolonging the effects of the siege and aggression, demanding the Security Council and the UN special envoy not to be satisfied with working to extend unhelpful truce after another.

Minister Sharaf pointed out that the Yemeni people want to end the military aggression, leave the comprehensive siege, deal with the economic and living effects of aggression, rebuilding and reconstruction, finding neighboring relations based on mutual respect and not interfering in internal affairs.

Media affiliated with the countries involved in aggression has reported that the UN Security Council stressed that Sana'a’s "extremist" demands in the last days of negotiations to extend the truce in Yemen has impeded the efforts of the United Nations to broker the agreement, "risking negative consequences."

A UN-brokered truce lasted for six months in the seven-year-old war waged by Saudi Arabia and its regional allies supported by US and western countries against Yemen.

The truce, however, expired on Sunday amid the Saudi-led coalition’s constant violations of the agreement and its refusal to properly lift a siege that it has been enforcing against Yemen since the beginning of the war.

The US-Saudi aggression, with UN complicity, is still evading the implementation of humanitarian and legal entitlements, foremost of which is the paying employee salaries, which made Sana’a refuse to extend the temporary truce.

Sana’a insists on disbursing the salaries of all state employees in accordance with a transparent mechanism and from secure funding sources so that the exchange process does not stop months after the agreement. However, the Saudi-led aggression rejected this equitable demand for all Yemenis without exception.

The head of the National Delegation Mohammed Abdulsalam censured the aggressor coalition for failing to renew the truce deal and deteriorating the humanitarian crisis in the country as a result of its intransigence and disavowal of measures that alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
