News - Yemen: The Ministry of Fisheries denounced the expansionist settlement activities of the Emirati occupation and its mercenaries, and the creation of military bases on the strategic island of Mayon.

In a statement, the ministry condemned Abu Dhabi's efforts to establish buildings and military bases for the occupying UAE forces, and to separate Mayon Island, which mediates the Bab al-Mandab Strait of Taiz Governorate, and annex it to the southern governorates under Emirati occupation.

The ministry stressed that this step represents a flagrant violation of Yemeni sovereignty, and comes within the framework of the aggression forces' moves to control the Bab al-Mandab Strait, in service of the Zionist enemy.

The statement pointed to the continuous violations committed by the UAE against the fishermen of Mayon Island and other fishermen in the occupied areas, displacing them and looting their property, with the aim of establishing military bases to serve the Zionist-American plans in the region.

The ministry called on the United Nations and human rights organizations to take serious action to stop these violations.

Earlier this year, Member of the Supreme Political Council, Ahmed Al-Rahwi, confirmed that the role of Mayon Island in influencing the Bab Al-Mandab Strait is the first reason for UAE and Zionist Enemy presence on the island.

Al-Rahwi explained that what is happening, in terms of the push to displace citizens from the island of Mayon, reveals the scheme of hegemony on the international corridor, which is under Yemeni sovereignty. He stressed that the people will not allow this plot to pass.

Al-Rahwi said that Netanyahu revealed, at the beginning of the Saudi-led aggression, the entity's concern about the Bab Al-Mandab strait, and the Emarati displacement of the island's population and the construction of military facilities are implementation of US-Zionist agenda.

Al-Rahwi added that the US-Saudi aggression should take a lesson from what it gained in previous conflicts. "We have the ability to bring push its presence far beyond Mayon," he said.
