National Salvation Government Considers Burning Copies of Qur'an as Crime Against Muslims

News - Yemen: The spokesman of the National Salvation Government, Minister of Information Dhaifullah Al-Shami, strongly condemned the burning of copies of the Qur'an in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, by the leader of the Danish far-right "hard line" party, Rasmus Paludan.

In a statement, the spokesman for the Salvation Government considered this disgraceful act a provocative crime against the feelings of Muslims in the world, and at the same time expresses the extent of hatred and criminality that the enemies of the nation hold against Islam and Muslims.

Al-Shami called Islamic nations, scholars and governments to renounce hate speech and violence and underscored the need to respect religious symbols.

The government spokesman called on the authorities of Sweden and Denmark to punish the criminals and take deterrent measures against instigators against Islam and Muslims and to apologize to the Islamic nation for the crimes of burning copies of Qur'an.

According to reports, Swedish right-wing leader Rasmus Paludan received permission from his country's government to burn the Holy Qur’an in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm. He was protected by the police while committing the act.

Back in April, Paludan tried to burn a copy of the Qur’an in a heavily-populated Muslim area.

Paludan, accompanied by police, went to an open public space in the southern Swedish city of Linkoping and reportedly placed the Muslim holy book down and tried to set it on fire while ignoring protests from onlookers.

Sweden's foreign minister Tobias Billström condemned hatred towards Muslims, but emphasized there were certain freedoms in his country.

"Islamophobic provocations are appalling," he tweeted. "Sweden has a far-reaching freedom of expression, but it does not imply that the Swedish Government, or myself, support the opinions expressed."
