WHO Issued Death Sentence for 5,000 Patients with Renal Failure in Yemen

Yemen: The Ministry of Health declares that the lives of 5000 kidney failure patients are in danger, while the World Health Organization ignores it, in conjunction with the depletion of the stores of the Ministry of Health and dialysis centers of medicines and solutions.

Correspondence between the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization revealed the UN's renunciation of its responsibility towards patients with kidney failure, after a year of official requests to provide the patients' medical needs.

The correspondence showed that the World Health Organization ordered the Ministry of Health in Sana'a to search for local funding, after a year of waiting and the stock of dialysis centers had run out.

The Ministry expressed its shock and said that the late response of the World Health Organization left no opportunity to provide alternatives, holding the WHO responsible for the disaster that awaits kidney failure patients who are threatened with death as a result of the depletion of medicines and solutions.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Health for the therapeutic medicine sector, Ali Jahaf, explained that the Ministry's demands with the World Health Organization was not limited to the letters that began in January 2022, but the Ministry held several meetings with the organization to demand the provision of the need for dialysis drugs and solutions and the lack of stock for the year 2023.

“We held a comprehensive meeting with WHO operating in Sana'a and informing them of the situation regarding the stock of dialysis and the expected catastrophe if the need for patients with kidney failure from dialysis sessions is not met,” he added.

Although the Ministry of Public Health sent an international distress call in late January, the World Health Organization is still deafening its ears to this day, leaving death imminent with the lives of five thousand patients with kidney failure in Yemen.
