Woman Kidnapped in Marib While Working on Vaccination Campaign

News - Yemen: A rights group documented testimony with the relatives of Yusra Muhammad Shater, an abducted woman in the Political Security prison in Marib, since September 2022.

Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms posted on its Facebook page on Monday a video clip of Shater’s brother explaining that Yusra Shater was kidnapped in Marib while she was working on a vaccination campaign against Corona.

He emphasized that "Yusra Shater used to go to Marib during the immunization campaigns of the World Health Organization with an official mandate," stressing that his sister's work is purely humanitarian.

He called on the international community, the United Nations and its organizations to put pressure on the parties that kidnap and kill their workers while performing their humanitarian work. He demanded the release of Yusra Shater and the rest of the kidnapped women in Marib without any legal justification.

Meanwhile, Shater’s sister explained that on September 24, the so-called Political Security of mercenaries kidnapped her sister, and since then, she is still in Marib prisons, without any charge being filed. She stressed that the abduction of women in the customs and traditions of Yemen is a black defect.

She appealed to international organizations, especially the World Health Organization (WHO), with which her sister was working, to move quickly to release her sister.

Yusra Muhammad Hassan Shater, was born in 1985 in Hamedan District, Sana’a Governorate. She works at the Higher Institute of Health Sciences. She has been kidnapped in Marib prisons since September 2022.

In May, Insan Organization for Rights said that the number of civilian abductees in the prisons of the US-Saudi aggression and its mercenaries is about 1,200, including women and children.

It stated that 256 civilian abductees were released, including 198 civilian detainees who were liberated in exchange deals out of 1,200.

"Through examinations of detainees released from the Political Security prison, it was found that there are widespread epidemics, most notably 'tuberculosis' , in addition to severe medical negligence on the part of those in charge of the prison," it added. "The various organizations are not allowed to visit the detainees."

It pointed out that among the violations are the arrest of healthy civilians, taking them to prisons, merging them with prisoners of war, and bargaining with them in exchange deals.

The organization indicated that there are civilian detainees whose physical and psychological health has deteriorated, and most of them suffer from psychological conditions.

It revealed that kidnappings and violations were not limited to men only, but also affected women and children, stressing that a number of abductees in Marib governorate died as a result of torture.
