Shura Council: UN Must Criminalize Burning Holy Quran as Harm International Peace, Security

News - Yemen: The Shura Council condemned the crime of burning the Holy Quran in front of the Libyan embassy in the Danish capital, Copenhagen.

In its statement, Sunday, the Council indicated that these crimes that incite hatred and strife between religions are being repeated without deterrence, which encourages their continuation in clear violation of the rules of international law regulating human rights.

The statement strongly deplored the Danish government's standing behind anti-Islam groups, which leaves no doubt that they are acts resulting from the policy of submission, humiliation, and the shameful normalization of some Arab regimes with countries hostile to Islam.

The statement called on the Arab and Islamic countries to quickly take unified positions of economic boycott and sever diplomatic relations with countries that offend Islam and Muslims.

It also called on the United Nations, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and all international and regional organizations to emphasize respect for the religious sanctities of peoples, to stop insulting Islam and Muslims, and criminalizing them as crimes that harm international peace and security.

More acts of sacrilege against the Holy Qur'an have taken place in Sweden and Denmark even as the two Nordic countries have said they are exploring ways to legally limit such actions to deescalate growing tensions with Muslim countries.

Several incidents have occurred in recent weeks that featured the desecration of the Holy Qur'an both in Denmark and Sweden with the approval of the two countries' authorities.

These moves drew strongly-worded condemnations from across the globe which have demanded that the Nordic governments put a stop to the desecration of Islam's holy book.

The sacrilegious acts also opened the floodgates of protests throughout the Muslim world, including in Iran, with all Muslim countries condemning the reprehensible profanity in the strongest terms.
