Yemeni Antiquities Auctioned in Tel Aviv

Yemen: From Yemen to the occupied Palestinian territories, a journey of plunder has targeted Yemen's historical artifacts, bringing them to public auctions in the enemy's entity.

Fifteen pieces of Yemeni antiquities were showcased in an open auction in Tel Aviv on the 3rd of October. Yemeni artifacts claimed the top spot on the list of the most expensive sold archaeological pieces, surpassing Byzantine, Roman, Egyptian, Phoenician, and other artifacts exhibited in the Zionist Robert Deutsch auction. One of the sold pieces reached a value of $65,000, while another reached $55,000.

The Yemeni antiquities displayed include statues made of marble, bronze, and silver, dating back to various periods of Yemen's history. All of these pieces come from the collection of Shlomo Moussaieff, a Jewish businessman and antiquities collector.

The looting of Yemeni antiquities is not a recent phenomenon but has intensified since the start of the US-Saudi aggression on Yemen. This was confirmed in a previous report by the Huhud Center for Archaeological Studies, which revealed that more than 2,600 Yemeni artifacts were sold during the aggression period, with the majority being sold in the United States for a total value exceeding $12 million for 2,150 pieces. The enemy's entity ranked third in terms of the number of sold pieces, which reached 500 archaeological artifacts.

The report also documented the number of Yemeni antiquities that were exhibited in prominent international auction houses between 1991 and 2022. During this time, more than four thousand Yemeni pieces were sold in six Western countries through 16 global American and European auctions. This is what was observed and what is concealed is even greater.

In the same regard, American researcher Alexander Nagel previously affirmed that one million Yemeni antiquities were smuggled to the United States over the past decades. He revealed that the majority of these pieces arrived via the UAE and the enemy's entity, adding that most of those who previously visited Yemen under the guise of scholars and archaeologists were, in fact, thieves and traders.

On the path of plunder that affected Yemeni antiquities, archaeological and tourist sites in Yemen have suffered systematic destruction. The US-Saudi aggression destroyed around 270 archaeological sites and 360 tourist facilities during the years of aggression as part of a deliberate policy targeting Yemen's history and various aspects of life in Yemen.

The savage war that claimed human lives and destroyed the stones in this country did not spare Yemen's history, which bears witness to the deep roots of this land and the authenticity of its citizens.
