US Tries to Persuade Shippers to Sail Red Sea: Bloomberg

News - World: The U.S. military tries to reassure shipping companies, claiming that the multinational force is working to "secure navigation" through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, despite the ongoing Yemeni attacks showing no signs of stopping, according to Bloomberg agency.

The spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Defense for the Middle East and Africa region, Byron McGarry, stated that the Pentagon is "nearly daily working on providing reassurance that the international community is present to help provide a safe passage."

McGarry also mentioned that some shipping companies will remain "more risk-averse" than others, noting that companies with connections to "Israel" might be "more cautious."

According to Bloomberg, Washington's attempts are not sufficient for most shipping lines, as they cannot rely solely on the assumption that drones or missiles targeting their vessels will be unable to bypass defenses.

Retired Navy officer and senior advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, Mark Cancian, stated that it will take some time for shippers to become familiar with the security situation.

He added that if it becomes clear that the United States and the international coalition in the Red Sea are "capable of maintaining a secure passage," shipping companies will "return to normal operations," noting that they are currently "unable to do so."

In this context, "AP Moller-Maersk A/S," the world's second-largest container shipping company, warned that "comprehensive risks have not been eliminated in the region," emphasizing that it will not hesitate to reassess the safety situation for its ships and employees.

Defense analyst and retired U.S. Navy captain, Gene Moran, stated in an interview that this approach seems to "not address the root cause of the threat," noting that the United States and the international coalition "need to do something about it," pointing out that his country is moving "with extreme caution" while the circumstances require a stronger response.

Earlier on Friday, the Yemeni Armed Forces issued a warning to the United States and its supporting countries on Friday against any escalation against Yemen and its people.

In a statement issued by the Armed Forces, they reaffirmed their steadfast and principled position regarding the Palestinian cause, stating that they will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to defend and confront any aggression.

Since the Israeli regime's relentless military campaign against Gaza commenced in early October, the Yemenis have openly declared their support for Palestine's struggle against the Israeli occupation.

In recent actions, the Armed Forces have conducted attacks on ships suspected of ties to Israel near Yemeni ports. On November 19, they intercepted and seized a vessel believed to be associated with the Tel Aviv regime.

Consequently, certain shipping companies with vested interests in occupied Palestine redirected their vessels, opting for longer routes around Africa to evade Yemeni attacks.

The ongoing siege has inflicted heavy casualties on Palestinians in Gaza, who have been enduring the war since October 7.

At least 21,320 people, mostly women and children, have been killed during the Israeli military campaign so far.
